My son Sam and I sang “Little Rabbit Foo Foo” on the way to get the mail yesterday. He loves to say the moral of the story right along with me, “Hare today, goon tomorrow!” He doesn’t understand what it means really, but it makes him happy to share those moments in time with me. And I him.
What a crazy, insane world this is. We all whine and cry (including me) that things are not going our way but we live in one of the best times of our lives. Yes, the economy is wonky and our President is sailing us into an iceberg of his own choosing, but there are a lot of things to be thankful for as well.
Just for example, I am happy that I am not a Jewish person in a concentration camp, or Ethiopian children and families in third world countries, or a poor Japanese immigrant who was placed in a camp in the United States after Pearl Harbor. What these people must have gone through, and some are still going through, must be horrific. I can not imagine the abject conditions that they have been through, those in the past, and those who still suffer in areas of the world now.
It always amazes me that many do not stop to appreciate what they do have. You have the sun to shine on your face, you have the beauty of God’s nature and the love of friends and family. You have food to eat and books to read about any subject you want to explore. Those who can afford it, have the technology to seek out and absorb data on any subject in the known universe. If you can’t afford it, it’s free of charge at the library. You have every thing in this world that you need to make you happy right at the end of your fingertips, and for that matter, inside of your heart and mind as well.
It’s all in your attitude really; your attitude forms your reality. So it’s really up to you. You can choose to be happy or let everything negative drown all the good aspects in your life. Yes, bad stuff is definately happening and it is happening to all of us, but what temptation really is, is allowing all of that negativity to drown you. Negativity is like a drug; once you let it in and allow it to grow, it zaps you of your will to exist. So, as the cliche goes, Say no to negativity.
Live in wonderment. Let the sun touch your face and put a positive spin on everything you do. Being happy and moving forward, that’s what it’s all about..
I’m still trying to figure out how to stay here permanently, in this mental frame of thought. I slip and slide and sometimes fall down the narrow slope of despair. But, I am hopeful, that one fine day, I will never have to go there again:)
And remember, you are “Hare today, and goon tomorrow,” so now is your only workable space in time. Make it work positively for you!
